Welcome to the online gallery of Joan Hollnagel

Joan Hollnagel has been building an artistic career all her life. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She raised two girls and owned a swimming pool business with her late husband Ken Hollnagel. Her first studio was at their home in Mequon, Wisconsin. Her participation in numerous juried exhibitions, art fairs and selling her work at “Studio Six” located in Cedarburg, Wisconsin for many years proved her to be a consistent and prolific artist. Because of Joan’s long-term membership with the Cedarburg artist guild she recently moved her home and studio to Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Her affiliation with the Cedarburg Artist Guild has been as a member, board member and co-president. 

Joan’s artwork has been labeled as sophisticated fantasy. She works in acrylics and paints highly detailed imagery of nature, insects and animals with human characteristics. Each painting is enjoyable to look at and often has a humorous message or pun. She has also created hundreds of stoneware clay wall sculptures and dolls using mixed media, soft sculpture and often painting them. The sculptural work has direct correlations to the paintings with subject matter and messages.

Joan’s artwork has won purchase awards and prizes. She has exhibited at the New York Toy Fair, Jekyll Island, NC Sculpture Conference, Santa Fe, NM Doll Art Show, Ghost Fleet Gallery in Nags Head, NC, Kinston Community Art Center in Kinston, NC, Art Post Gallery in Grafton, WI and was commissioned to make several one of a kind creations.
